Our Philosophy
The name “BAUM YOGA STUDIO” carries two meanings.
“Baum” is the German word for “tree.”
It is also the “baum” in baumkuchen, the well-known layered cake familiar in Japan. Young trees are full of fresh vitality, while trees that have stood for hundreds of years embody strength and resilience, having taken root through harsh conditions. Every tree has its own individuality, and each has its own unique beauty. Like the rings of a tree that mark the passage of time, we hope to grow older gracefully—staying true to ourselves, vibrant and healthy at every stage of life.
The second meaning is “Baum” as in “creating a place” (場を生む).
The word “yoga” originates from the Sanskrit word yuj, meaning “to connect” or “to unite.” Even on days when you feel a bit low, coming here, meeting people, sharing conversations, and practicing yoga can gently lighten both body and mind. Through yoga, we hope to create a space where people connect—with each other and with the local community—
and from this place, positive energy can spread outward.
Our Space

●Warm, Solid Wood Flooring
We carefully selected solid white oak flooring for its balance of firmness and warmth, honoring the importance of grounding through the feet in yoga.
Finished with a natural, rice-based oil, the space offers a sense of comfort from the ground up, helping the body and mind relax with ease.

●A Small but Fully Equipped Space
Every body is different, so we provide a range of props—including blocks, straps, bolsters, and blankets—to support each individual practice.
All equipment is available free of charge. You’re welcome to join us empty-handed.

●A Natural Environment That Deepens Your Breath
Located in a quiet hamlet in Otari Village, surrounded by lush greenery, the studio offers views of the Northern Alps through large windows.
Being in this natural setting allows the breath to deepen naturally.
We invite you to enjoy the changing seasons—and even the journey to the studio—as part of the experience.
